12 RPGs you should play before you die.
- Ars Magica - Magic done right, well at least close, sort of. I mean it really has a structure that I really get it. Also you play over years and years of game time. It really feeds the builder part of personality.
- Nobilis - Think of an aspect of reality. Now you are person that the keeper of that aspect (angel, devil, dragon, wild god, etc.) has chosen to keep regular tabs on that aspect. Oh and you get a bunch of power too. Diceless, but resource driven. Very fun.
- D&D “Keep of the Borderlands” module - Classic fun
- White Wolf’s World of Darkness - Any of them; All of them.
- Scion - Basically White Wolf admitting that they make power-driven games, but that they can’t give up the dice. Half way between WoD and Nobilis. Also I have run this a few times, so I am biased.
- Marvel Superheroes - Really all you need to do is roll up a character with the Ultimate Power Book
- Gumshoe/Esoterrorist - totally different from any other game. The only way I will play in a mostly normal modern setting.
- Call of Cthulhu - As BG said, the trick is the die the slowest.
- Agon - You play a Greek hero in the Bronze age (or maybe even Silver, but not quite Gold). Think the Argonauts.
- Unknown Armies - Only done derivative playing of this system before, but it was fun, and really fits with the setting.
Can I put Ars Magica and Nobilis on here again? No? Well too bad.
