I dunno. To me Wentworth has been really on since about episode 9 I think and generally improving since 7. I think before that his character was pretty much floundering.
Of course the alternative explanation is it's really just the effect of his wardrobe improving and there finally being more close ups of his face (I think in the earlier episodes they tried to sell Michael as a more tough rather than emotional hero by doing more far away shots).
I think the Whistler/Sofia thing was interesting to me not so much about them as characters, but because the whole thing felt pretty much like a setup almost daring Michael to empathize with the situation.
I will agree with you about the camera angles and wardrobe. I think it's absolutely gotten more sophisticated and made a difference in the image Michael portrays. I didn't like the way they were trying to show him as a tough hero. That was precisely when he should have been the most emotional, in my opinion.
With the Sofia/Whistler thing, I found the plot interesting, but I think they've done a terrible job of flushing out those particular characters. I wished I could care, but I couldn't, you know?
Well, I don't know whether it's because I have an automatic distrust of all characters (just because of the way PB tends to write their stories) or if it's just bad acting, but I'm not even sure if things really are as they seem
( ... )
Yes, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Whistler turned out to be more than a sympathetic character, and ended up bad. Didn't he reveal that he knew Gretchen from before? These storylines have gotten so muddled. But basically, yes, I expect him to turn out to be in-line with the Company, trying to play Michael. But as you pointed out, it could just be bad writing and/or acting that's led us to believe that. Hmm.
So I watched it... And I so agree with you about Whistler and Sofia! I really don't care. I am not even sure if I believe either one of them. They just don't seem believable. Whistler tearing up? First I was like, yeah right, that's an act. And then I thought, well maybe he's just not a good actor? I dunno.
And Wentworth really played Michael well this week. I agree also with you about him not being a tough guy. That is just not Michael. Even though he's lost Sara and the Company has screwed him together with everyone else royally, I just can't see him as this macho man. LOL
You are probably right in saying some of the plot was meant for Sara, and that they've tried to move it over to other characters. And I'm sorry but it just doesn't work for me.
All in all a good eppie. It felt like the old PB again for a while there. I esp liked the guys in the tunnel, all the scheming and Mahone was especially good this week. I liked him and Michael almost working together.
I've always thought Michael and Mahone could make an interesting team. Before S3 began, I was really excited by the prospect of them being in Sona together. Then Mahone was just...blah to me for a while there, but now I feel like he's back. We'll see!
