To comment this thing thoroughly I would have to take the rest of the night, but I'm in a hurry to bed...
Anyway, there's one thing I really wanted to say! A couple of others seem to disagree with you about the title, which really, really surprises me. I'm an absolute title-whore. Think about it - what's the meaning of a title anwyay? It is supposed to be the first thing to catch a reader's attention, the first thing by which a piece of literature is supposed to be judged.
Also, you don't list correct grammar, but for me that's an absolute must. Starting from the title - if that's not correctly capitalized (as you said - articles and prepositions must not be capitalized except in the beginning of the title, everything else must be capitalized), my spine's already twisting and I assure you that's not a good way to charm a reader. :D
Goodness forbid, if there are mistakes like their/they're, then/than and such like. Maybe I'm a bit of a nazi, but repetitive mistakes annoy me to no end so badly that I simply refuse to read the story if the grammar isn't 90% correct. Of course, we all make small mistakes, but overall the text needs to be good. Okay, I confess, I'm a nazi and snob, I know. By the way, did I already mention punctuation? ;D I'm not exactly the ace there myself, at least not when I'm writing carelessly such as in LJ, but it has to be mostly correct.
All and all - I really agree with your points 100% here (again). Overall great job with the editorial, I'm sure a lot of writers will find this helpful. I surely did - even though I'm not exactly a writer, at least not much, at least not yet.
Yes, go to bed, but reply to this when you get a chance... ;-)
I said in the second paragraph, "it’s just a given that spelling, grammar and punctuation are important. If you have a hard time with that, get a beta and cling to them with all your might."
It's just my opinion but if you don't already know that's important, I hardly think you're reading something of this nature to have a conversation about it.
I am happy to have someone else on board regarding the title. It's not just me! yay!
First of all, your avatar is made of awesome. That really cracked me up!
I said in the second paragraph - Ah, that you did, my mistake! Goes to show I was a bit in a hurry. Sorry about that. Though I might have still listed it as one of my five major turnoffs.

I was also glad to hear I'm not the only one with a problem considering all kinds of AUs and cross-overs. I just can't find it within myself to read cross-overs at all, basically. As for AUs - I love them, as long as they're canon in the sense that for me AU fics too have to have a certain amount of credibility. They have to be able to convince me that this could really happen in the world of Prison Break.
