So tonight was supposed to be our regular guy's small group but, alas, nobody came......except for Scott. I still had a couple different Bibles, research materials, laptop etc all strewn about on the table as I had been trying to prepare last minute. Yes, the usual for me it seems.
We were going to dig in and just forge ahead with the study (the book of James should you be interested) but we never got around to it. What did end up happening was an unexpected blessing of sorts. It's funny how you can spend so much time and energy studying Scripture and trying to figure something new out, and then God takes you to something entirely different and knocks you off your feet. That's how tonight felt for me.
We ended up writing a new song. Well, technically the song is quite old. You see we came across an old hymn from the roarin' 20's and decided to take the lyrics from the verses, write a new chorus, and write new music. It came out wonderfully and it's now cycling through my head endlessly....
When comes the golden sunset
That trails God's way on high,
And with its radiant splendor
Illumes the evening sky,
How are the hills and valleys
Aglow with crimson rays,
While nature's deep toned organ
Lifts heavenward its praise:
Refrain
"Holy, holy!"
Only You are God, Only You are God;
"Worth, Worthy!"
Only You are God, Only You are God;
So God reveals at sunset
The grandeur of His throne,
The deeper, fuller glory
Reserved to be our own;
And in that hour's unfolding
Forgot are fear and pain
In love's abounding solace,
In heaven's great refrain
Refrain
Then come, blest hour of sunset,
Along the golden way,
And thrill us with the splendors
That fill life's perfect day.
God is the end of living,
He satisfies the soul,
And they who seek His glory
Will find in Him their goal.
Refrain
