So I think I mentioned last post that I hit a snag with the house for the Grove family. There was some discussion on things that could be done, but I'm still stuck.
Okay, just provisionally throwing down walls and furniture, option 1:
Entryway with a powder room and place for mail/coats; small study off the living room; and a den that currently holds a spare bed for guests and a treadmill/workout equipment. No windows on the spare room, which makes it more of a den or library space, some kind of catchall space for a bachelor.
Option 2:
The same but moves the spare room to the other side where it gets a window and becomes a full-fledged extra bedroom. Still being used as a provisional guest room/workout room/whatever, but leaves more flexibility for dealing with future family members.
That's probably how I'd break down the space. Something like that! :)
I thiiink I prefer option 2, feels neater? Having a hallway like that is a good idea. I don't feel completely sold on it though... not sure why. I'm torn between having a normal layout and having a fairly empty/spacious house that can later be made over into something more functional once Mr. Grove stops roaming and starts up a family. In the spirit of an RKC (though one set in the future, lol) I'm also still trying to find the happy medium between futuristic/medieval/limited infrastructure+resources. :< Like, I don't think they'd have a huuuuge labour force for the production of elaborate furniture/etc, but if they have ~the technology~ to do that with minimal labour, not an issue, you know? So that limits what furniture is available, and that limits what sort of rooms would be in a house.
I have already started messing around with it and I'm getting closer to something I like, so after this rambling, here's one whole picture of where I was up to last night. XD
loads of progression, amirite?
hmmm. maybe I'll flip the staircase and put in a couple of rooms along that back wall there. At the very least that gives me more room. An itty-bitty library-study, maybe? Things!
