Yeah, I know, it's scary shit. I imagine it might be easier for those who don't have a publisher, less pressure. But also less motivation. You know people are eagerly waiting to read this, your publisher has a few of them, and your friends and family are eagerly waiting, too.
Man, I can't wait. It's gonna be so cool, and teach me a whole lot that I didn't know about the original Haitian zombies and how it exploded into the American movie and TV and pop culture scenes from there.
In the meantime, I dunno. "Just write" sounds so hollow and overused, but seriously, starting is always the hardest part. Don't stress about grammar or anything like that for the first pass, just get it out of your head, off of your notes, and into your Word document. Get all of it down, and then you can go back over it for clarity and such. In my days of writing short stories, I used to put on music I knew well, chew on some orange Tic-Tacs, and go at it. I have no idea why the flavors of vanilla and orange helped me get into and stay in my writing groove, but they did. Maybe you'll prefer burning sage or lighting a few candles. Whatever you need.
And like I said on Facebook, after butterflies struggle out of their chrysalis, they cling to the twig and rest there, letting their wings pump full of blood.
You may be closer to flying than you think!
(And if you need to write tonight instead of wandering around Downcity Providence with a buncha drunk zombies, that's fine with me! I may go anyway, just for curiosity's sake.)
