Suboptimal Construction Techniques

May 03, 2006 20:55

In an attempt to be somewhat productive today, I decided to start on a projec that won't really get underway until the weekend, if we're lucky. A while back, a utility door on the back of our house fell off the hinges, appearing to actually be an interior door that wasn't intended for that use. Anyway, we're replacing that with a door that should arrive Friday, a nice prehung metal unit. So, I set about removing the old frame.

Took off the trim around the door and discovered that said trim was the only thing holding the door frame in place. It was never actually secured to the 2x4's that framed out the rough opening. Stupid builders. We've seen some odd choices in how this house was put together before, but that one has to be one of most glaring errors I've seen yet. Well, we'll fix it now.

In IIDX news, AAA #22 accomplished: Don't Stop (L7) has fallen. That song gave me so much trouble when I was first playing. Feels good to finally defeat it.
