So, I was working on my powerbook tonight, and it freezes. No problem, I figured, this has happened before. So, I hit Ctrl +Apple + power, and it restarted and... hung. I waited, I waited... and I waited... and nothing happened. And then, a dagger went through my heart. I was presented with a gray screen and a cute animated gif alternating between a folder with a question mark on it, and the mac smiley face. Greeted with this adorable harbringer of woe, despair and dire ferrets, a word came to mind.
Fuck.
I located my 10.3 system restore disk, popped it in, and rebooted holding down C like a good camper. Not wanting to abandon all hope, I clicked on the disk utility. Surely 10.3 would see my hard drive, and rescue it. No hard disk was to be seen. Fine...I'd do a re-install. Surely that would work. I got to the "select disk to install", and my hard disk was conspicuously absent. Needless to say, this is bad. Tomorrow, I will be calling around to see if anyone can salvage the data off of the hard disk.
