(*Okay guys, I apologize in advance. I don't know why LJ cuts are suddenly not working for me. I've been coding and recoding for the last 2 hours, and it just simply isn't working :((

Sponsor me for AIDS Walk Los Angeles 2011!

I am offering hand-drawn commissions, limited edition art prints, and other gifts in exchange for a donation to my team for AIDS Walk Los Angeles 2011.

On October 16th, 2011, I will walk with Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team, which is one of the largest AIDS service organizations in the United States that specializes in HIV/AIDS services for Asians and Pacific Islanders. Despite our name, we do not turn anyone away due to race, gender, sexuality, or immigration status.

Over the years, the number of AIDS diagnoses among Asians and Pacific Islanders have increased steadily, due to a variety of factors, including stigma towards HIV/AIDS and LGBT sexuality. In Los Angeles, the problem is much greater than that of the CDC reports, because California is not one of the 33 states that report national data on HIV/AIDS among Asians. We have clients from different parts of Asian who have come to the U.S. as refugees because they face overwhelming discrimination due to their status and sexuality. We have clients who have been disowned by their families due to their sexuality. We have clients who fear losing their loved ones if they found out about their HIV status.

We are unique in Los Angeles because we offer free foreign language interpreters for monolingual and limited-English proficiency clients, because we believe that access to culturally competent healthcare is critical to improving health and well-being. We are also one of the few organizations that provide free substance abuse counseling and treatment, as well as free mental health counseling and treatment.

Your donations will DIRECTLY benefit the clients. I work for Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team as a case manager, and we are one of the recipients of AIDS Walk Los Angeles 2011 funds. These funds will directly benefit clients by funding counseling, food pantry, hot lunches, social support programs, and much more.

HIV/AIDS is still a major health concern in our communities, and disproportionally affects people of color, low socioeconomic status, and LGBT status. I work with HIV/AIDS clients as a case manager, providing linkages to social services and treatment, treatment education, and advocacy. Their stories are inspiring, moving, and heartbreaking. They are truly survivors.

How my offerings work: Shipping will be calculated separately from the donation amount. I will cover the cost of shipping for certain items, but for other items, the cost of shipping should be sent to my Paypal account (foxestacado@gmail.com) and the donation to be sent to my AIDS Walk 2011 page. If you cannot pay using a credit card, alternatively you can pay the donation and shipping amount to my Paypal account, and I'll transfer the donation part to my AIDS Walk page. I can give you a receipt if you want!

COMMISSION AN ORIGINAL DRAWING/SKETCH

My limited edition art prints go for up to $300 at auction, but I rarely sell original drawings, and *never* any commissions. This is because my hands hurt after a short period of drawing, and I just don't have the endurance to draw very long. But because this is a very special cause to me, I feel it is only appropriate to offer something very special, even at the expense of painful arms and wrists. So, I am offering 10 original drawings/sketches for $30 each. These will be done on 8x10 (or so) textured paper with graphite pencil. Give me a fairly loose prompt (of course, you can be specific on who is being depicted), and I'll give you a drawing, sketch, cartoon, or something else entirely.
