Cyber Ethics Fiction
So about this project I have back in college- My IT Ethics class teacher told one of us to make a fictional cyber ethics related case of sorts. And since I passed it and got a 18/20 after, I was thinking I just post the project right here. Yeah it be stupid if I were to delete it now coz actually, I'm not happy with it. It's just bad writing or should I say, I'm not much of a writer. But I will post it in here anyways since I will consider as one of my crappy works. I somehow wished I disabled comments for some apparent reasons but uh, never mind.
I also need to remind myself that I have yet to issue a recommendation letter for today in regards for my upcoming on-the-job training. But still currently taking one of my last final exams of course. I so wished to pass this semester.
Vina’s Double-edged Art Thievery Case
Vina is a 13 year old child and she is the one and only child of her family. Her life was just normal as she is currently a high school student and most of all, a shy and quiet person. According to some, she is labeled to be a loner but what makes her different is that she shows much love and support to her parents- Despite of not making any friends back at school. All in all, it was shown that Vina was actually the only responsible child of her parents.
One day after another, Vina found out that she realized her parents haven’t had enough salary from their job that they worked on. This has become a problem for Vina’s parents and they have to find some other way to earn more money for their daughter such as her final exams will take place by next month. While they didn’t noticed about Vina’s presence, she decided herself that she will find her own way or solution for helping her parents. However, she will not remind them about her actions unto this either.
Luckily for her to have a computer given by her parents at the first place, Vina is off to set on making her own plans. She created an account on DeviantArt under the name “Veritas” and almost kind of ignoring on reading all the rules and regulations of the site. She then wondered that if she were to make works for her own and are ready for selling, it would take amount of time to do so. So by the word of the devil, she decided to go to some other art sites out there and that she unexpectedly discovers a unique art site- Pixiv. One Pixiv artist that caught her so much is a Japanese artist named “77”, who is known for his or her own unique works ranging from traditional to digital. Although she never cared on asking the artist for permission, she will just nabbed everything from the artist’s gallery, regardless of her saying to herself, “Ah, this will be a piece of cake. Everything you get from the internet is just free after all.” After nabbing all 77’s works, she then posted them in her DA account and set mostly one of them available for prints. In the end of the week, she was able to gain about P5000 for the least.
However, this action is not enough for her as far as she noticed. Vina then planned for another immediate action and this would help her to take places interchangeably. Luckily, she has a close friend of hers who owns a printing company and decided to search for more attractive pictures in the internet for the meant time. She then stumble a cosplayer’s account with lots of interesting photos. So in an instance, she tries to nab all of the pictures along. The next day, she contacted her friend John, owner of Ligaya Printing Company, to e-mail him the pictures she gathered to be printed for her. At first thought, John was worriedly asking if her intent was reasonable but she further complied with him that she was doing the right thing for her parents’ sake. So after John’s decision, he then do what Vina requested and send it to her for selling the printed notebooks and sell it at the same time.
With her double-edged strategy, she was able to gain enough money so far. She has received P15000 thanks to the notebooks she’s selling. The next day when she wanted to open her DeviantArt account, she noticed that her account has been suspended. She then realized that she have received notifications given by the site’s administrators that she has been accused of art theft and additionally- Her IP address got blocked on entering the site from now on. Vina then realized again that she haven’t read the rules and regulations of the site in the first place, so to her dismay, she can’t think of any but to never make another account in DA anymore. However, she was able to succeed on gaining P5000 there in that site. So with her head hanging up high (literally), she uttered words of hope “I’m still not giving up yet.”
The upcoming finals is just only one week left and Vina, staying in the house at the moment, began studying for her exams. While she has time to study, she has to wait for her parents’ arrival in order for her to tell them the good deed she did of gathering money for the tuition. A few minutes later, she heard the door opened and upon noticing it, her parents arrived just in time. With her charismatic spirit, she began to approach them but suddenly- She noticed that it was not only her parents coming inside the house but she sees two men in black suits and along with another tall man. Both of her parents sported a worried face that Vina never expected and then the tall man approached in front of her and formally introduced himself. It was found out that the tall man is actually the manager of the famous cosplayer, Amelia, which he has been loyally working for her for decades. And without any second though, she was terrified that the manager accused her for selling Amelia’s photos through notebooks and wanted an immediate action to do so. Vina insisted that she was doing what she could for her parents’ sake but the manager additionally added that she has violated the copyright acts on doing so. With the heated discussion going on, the manager then decided that they must pay a fine- A fine that would worth thousands or perhaps, hundreds. And that additionally includes Vina’s P20000 along.
Therefore, her parents have remained speechless towards the sudden discovery of their daughter’s actions. Vina never expected anything like this to happen and now she feels that her parents are staying away from here. But they still have that case to be solved so in the end, it is up to Vina and her parents to solve this issue once and for all.
