Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel García Márquez To merely say that this slim volume is the story of a man who wants a teenage virgin to deflower on his ninetieth birthday makes it seem too prurient than it is. To merely say that it is about when one finds Love, one finds Life makes it seem more insipid than it is. It is both. It is neither. It is a gem to be savored slowly, preferably near someone you love.
Probably too short and not "important enough" to be considered for Dublin, which is too bad. It was perfect reading on the cusp of my birthday, made even more special to me personally since the girl's birthday is the same as mine.
Recommended.
