Yes, I still exist, even though I haven't posted in nearly a month! Quick summary of life events:
Three weeks ago: Went to Adelaide for
NYCATwo weeks ago: Got back home after an amazing week of singing, meeting wonderful people, learning unbelievably much about choirs, singing, conducting and music, making friends and partying.
One week ago: Having spent week after coming back from Adelaide working twice as much to make up for being away, remembered to vote on election day (not that it did any good), went to Geelong for hilarious debutante ball gig and drove back again in time for Chris L's party, then spent Sunday afternoon enjoying the sun in St Kilda (in between tutoring, yum cha and a MonUCS committee meeting, that is).
Friday: Day off, hurrah! Well mostly, anyway - apart from two-hour lunchtime meeting. Went to girly movie (Suddenly 30) with
mawaridi and
splatchtrock, laughed lots and was filled with nostalgia for early teenage years which are further away from me now than age 30 is (scary!); indulged in yummy chocolate treats at MB; had family dinner; arrived in time for Acts 2 and 3 of Threepenny Opera (yay for
fin and
coleochaete who performed brilliantly as criminals and beggars, hee hee); went to current favourite bar and indulged in cocktails and oysters; got home to find was locked out of house; finally got to bed at 2am.
Yesterday (was it only yesterday?!): Woke up at 5am (three hours sleep, hurrah) to catch plane to Sydney. Arrived at airport, wandered around in sleep-deprived daze, somehow ended up at Bondi Junction because that's where the bus went. Walked down the Mall, would have had coffee at one of the ever-so-Sydney sidewalk cafes but didn't actually want coffee so sat on bench in the sun and read book until 9:00am. Had small accidental snooze there (it was warm and I was sleepy). Bondi supposedly near beach, except "near" = not actually very near, as I discovered when I tried to walk there. Got to top of hill, saw sea still several km away at bottom of hill, contemplated dazzling blue sea and sunny day, contemplated looong potential walk back up hill, went back down other side and visited Giant Shopping Centre instead. Managed to get back to city in time for lunch with friends at Darling Harbour.
My reason for going to Sydney was actually the
SUMS ball, so after lunch it was off to Newtown, where I was staying with
boojumlol, to get ready. On the way, I managed to get ever so slightly sidetracked to Gallery Serpentine, where I ordered one of
these. Mmmm, velvet corset... There weren't any size 8s in stock and anyway I had to get custom sizing, because the 8 was still 2 inches too big in the waist, so my new corset will be ready in about three weeks - just in time for me to pick up on my next trip to Sydney!
The theme for the Ball was "Underworld", so
boojumlol,
hecticred and I all had fun lacing each other into our corsets for the evening. There were quite a few other corset-wearers, and generally lavish, extravagant and creative costumes aplenty! The venue, Milton's Restaurant, was very swish and made more so by the extra decorating touches; there were lots of lovely SUMS people there that I knew and also lots that I didn't know to begin with, but got to meet; we had much food and drink and were very merry - all in all a great night. I love having such great choral friends interstate <3
Then it was back to
boojumlol's for four hours of sleep before going to the airport at 5am this morning to catch the plane back to Melbourne. (Thanks for having me to stay *hugs* I hope I didn't wake you when I left, and sorry I didn't have time to fold up all the bedding this morning, the taxi came in about two minutes!)
Today: recovery, work, lazing around reading (Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks, a simply luminous book which I highly recommend), more work, and finally finally updating LJ. *yawn*
