Happy New 2008, everyone! I know I'm a little late, but I have been busy with:
* getting to Melbourne just in time to see in the New Year - spotting the early fireworks over the CBD from the plane was a highlight
* going down to BTOFF for the night - it was great to see lots of friends (and meet some new ones), and nice as always that the Beach Trip has turned into a tradition. Lots of cheers for
evil_s for her wonderful organisation! With the weather over 40C in town on New Year's Day, the chance to swim at the beach was much appreciated (even if it was a bit cooler down there).
* shopping - I now have a new business suit, for which I paid about a quarter of the usual price, hurrah for Bridge Rd!
* going to my parents' country house
and
* work! I know I'm meant to be on holiday, but since arriving in Melbourne I have:
- sent off corrected proofs for one paper
- submitted another
- made changes to a third
- submitted revisions to a fourth
- reviewed someone else's paper
- and done sundry other publicity/admin things
(It is probably an illustration of how much I like my job that I don't mind.)
Meanwhile, there are lots of things I want to do with everyone while I'm here (picnics! moonlight cinema! night markets! WWLA! yum cha! cocktails!) but organising these will have to wait a little, as my internet time is up...
