(no subject)
Today was windy! And I mean, super-windy. Those of my f-list who are in Manchester need no explanation; for everyone else, here's what I mean:
* on my way to work today, I was bemused to see a group of people apparently milling aimlessly on a street corner. Until I got to the corner, and realised that the reason they were "milling aimlessly" was because they were being blown about haplessly by the wind, unable to actually cross the street.
* we got evacuated from our building because of high wind conditions causing structural damage and blowing the top floor off the building next door!
* apparently, five people have been killed today in Manchester as a result of the severe weather conditions - from being blown into things, having things blown into (or on top of) them, or one man had a heart attack when he went out to clear the debris from his garden :(
Apart from the difficulty I experienced walking to work and the evacuation business, I have escaped unscathed, but the wind has shaken my house enough to knock paint off the roof beams. My floor is carpeted with a fine layer of black paint dust. o_O
