I've been thinking about the ways in which people post memes, and how my preferred style of posting memes in my journal is a product of how I react to other people's meme postings. I'm sure we've all experienced the annoyance of having an entire page of f-list filled with variants of the same meme with huge graphics that take ages to load, or having to scroll through yet another looong text meme when all I wanted was a quick glance at my friends page. But then on the other hand, I quite like finding out my f-list's meme results, and reading the longer memes when I have time to do so.
In my own journal, using a lj-cut seems like a good solution for posting memes but not annoying my friends with gratuitous bandwidth-guzzling pictures or really long meme posts. However, I like to know what I'm going to find behind a cut when I click it - if it's a meme and whether it's one I'm interested in, in this instance. If the result contains a picture, I also feel I should spare people actually having to click the cut to find out the result if they are interested.
So my usual style of posting memes is to put them behind a cut, and to specify in the text of the cut what meme it is and/or my result, and then to include any other comments I feel are relevant in the uncut part of the post. But of course, this is mostly for the benefit of people reading - who may not think the same way about meme posts at all. So: what do you think?
