Today on the train, I concluded I might be a little racist. I generally would never consider myself a racist person, in fact there's a new Rhoads 5 hire who's black who I actually think is quite cute (granted, after getting to know her I decided I wasn't terribly attracted to her, but am hesitant to downgrade her crush status, mainly because she's black. That is probably in and of itself racist). Anyway, the train is quite crowded because it's rush hour, and there are people standing in the rows. I managed to find a seat, pull out my book, when I can't help but hear an exceptionally loud conversation behind me.
"Why you gotta be all breathin' down me while I'm trying to eat? Damn!"
"Well mam, there aren't any seats left"
"Chantel, I gotta try an' eat my Arby's wit 'sombody breafin' all over me."
"MMMHmmm"
Chantel and her cheeseburger-eating friend proceeded to talk at a volume my iPod earbuds were simply incapable of overpowering. Cheeseburger recounted a date gone awry when her man, who, after paying for her movie-ticket like a gentleman, casually tried split the dinner bill at Chili's afterwards. Cheeseburger-bad-date-at-Chili's continues talking while Chantel's phone rings. Cheeseburger girl does not stop talking to Chantel while Chantel is on the phone, and in fact proceeds to give a movie review of Bourne Supremecy during Chantel's conversation:
(an R&B ringtone) "HALLO? HAAYYYY GIRRRRRL, We jus' on the train to Paoli. Uh huh. Uh huh. Nigga you f'reeal??"
Simultaneously: "Movie was good 'tho. Bourne Supremecy? Lotsa action..."
I wanted to get up and yell PLEASE STOP REINFORCING YOUR OWN STEREOTYPES! PLEASE! YOU'RE MAKING ME A JUDGMENTAL PERSON! HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR YOURSELF! I maxed out my iPod's volume and tried my hardest to ignore them and my inner racist.
