No WSOP for me :(

Oh well, I tried and failed.  The last chance I had for qualifying in what is bound to be the largest Hold-'Em poker tournament in history ended in a heads-up (one-on-one game) last night with my K9 being pummelled by an AQ hitting a straight.  Denied!

Still, I can blame my Nottingham landlord for promising to get broadband piped into the flat I am ( Read more... )

Actually, not quite. It was a double shootout event. 81 people (or as many as sign up, less last night as it happened) all pay $160 and nine tables start rolling. The winner from each table then plays off in a final table and the winner of that one goes to the WSOP.

I made it to heads up on the first table. Still think I was the better player but I mde a sub-optimal play at that last hand and paid the price. Mind you, in the process I did knock out lilholdem954, currently rated as the second best player on the entire site with winnings of nearly $200k since the start of the year.

The best placing I have had in these tourneys has been 3rd (i.e. won the first table, came third out of nine on the second) against two very tough opponents. Not too bad, I guess but not a win so meh. Meanwhile I've had so many wins on the original $16 double shootout tables I've lost count. In fact these are how I have been financing my endeavours. You play a $16 and win an entry to the $650 tourney. Then you unregister from that tourney and are given the entry fee in dollars that can only be used to enter more special event tourneys, i.e. other $16 or the $160s if you like. So my plan was always to win the $16s and play in the $160s, which is why I have a load of cash spare at the end.

You can check out my placings and winnings on www.OfficialPokerRankings.com if you like. I play as Fox-UK in Pokerstars, naturally :)
