House Hunting

My sister has encouraged me to blog more.  So here goes.
Also, I should learn how to do those hyperlink thingies with people's screen names.

Moving to Kansas City requires finding a place to live.  Yes, we could stay at the Farm (the capital letter is intentional) but it would mean over an hour commute for me to get to work as well as making Jeny and the boys feel isolated.  So a place in town is required.
But I know essentially nothing of the housing/renting market here.
What do we want?  I'm glad you asked.  We each have our list.
Foremost Jeny wants to be in the city.  After that she wants a walkable neighborhood.  That is to say she can walk to local park with the boys or walk to the library or to the store.
I want a reasonable commute time.  Being in one of the neighborhood in which Google Fiber is available would be awesome.  Faster internet?  Yes, please!  Sadly that service is not available in KCK.
Child number one wants a tree house.
Child number two has not voiced any specific house desires.

A two bedroom place is our minimum.  House or apartment is flexible though a house would be nicer.  But the two bedroom minimum is non-negotiable.

Renting seems like the more natural option but looking at housing costs it occurs to me that buying a house here is not a ten-years-down-the-road goal.  It may be a one-year-down-the-road goal.

And of course the tree house.
