I feel, after viewing tonight's presidential debate, that I have to apologize for my last two posts. No longer can I joke about the current state of American politics: I fear for this country's future. Tonight's debate was a complete and utter fucking travesty. Both candidates were off more so even than usual. Kerry looked like he had a cold and Bush seemed to be on meth. Unfortunately, such a disparity between the two personalities led to a rather lifeless repeat of the last two debates. There were no POLAND or INTERNETS outbursts. Just Blue Cross Blue Sheild. The moderator was beyond terrible. Bush seemed better tonight, but that's only because we're so used to his particular brand of incompetence that any improvement seems like a monumental one. Unfortunately, his credibility was seriously damaged by his inability to keep from foaming at the mouth. Kerry on the other hand was post-mortem in appearance, utterly without conviction, and completely squandered all of his speaking points on useless rhetoric.
I don't think anyone won this debate and I'm not saying it was a draw. Kerry had some great zings but he could have really hammered Bush and I don't know why he didn't. Bush managed to hold his own better than the first debate but not as well the second debate. I should have played a game instead of wasting an hour and a half watching this pathetic excuse for a debate.
What irritates me the most is the attitude both candidates have about civil liberties; you can't say that you support the constitution and then in the same breath mention that you support the church-state-eroding bullshit of faith-based initiatives. Both candidates are bullshitting on that, and it's infuriating.
Remember the tagline from Alien VS. Predator? "Whoever wins, WE LOSE." Yeah.
So what does this mean? For me, I'm voting for Badnarik. Yes, it's a throwaway vote. I don't care. I registered Libertarian, and I can't fathom the thought of a country led by either of these two men. For me, my patriotism will be standing up for the cause I believe in, even if other people believe it's foolish. What will your patriotism be?
