Yoga - new teacher, may challenge

tashar and austengirl asked how my search for a new yoga teacher is going. I mused about part of my dilemma in a comment on _ishtahar_'s real life blog a few weeks ago, but let's start from the beginning.

I've actually been attending my usual class with the new guy. It is just ok, but very tense. He always puts a cd on to "distract us from the gym sounds", and then proceeds ( Read more... )

I think you're right in that it's time to look elsewhere. You gave the new guy a fair chance and reasonable amount of time. No point in forcing it if the teacher/student compatibility isn't there.

The level of adjustment surprises me, as most of my teachers have been pretty hands-off or preferred verbal suggestions over physical adjustments. And that student in Ish's class is pretty mind-blowing, I've never seen anything like that before.

I tried a new studio and teacher when my favorite one moved away. Drove me nuts. I don't mind background music, but he put it on at a volume where it was difficult for me to hear his instructions unless I sat really close to the front. And at moments during the class which I thought were meant for quiet, he just chattered endlessly. I just stopped going as none of the other classes fit my schedule. I was *so* glad when my teacher moved back.

I'm really hoping I can find a studio in Cumbria and get a couple of classes in this month. I went to one in Melbourne and it was so lovely, it reminded me that I do miss yoga and need to get back into that routine again. Lots of luck on your quest for a new yoga home!
