It used to be that when my hips were out of alignment, I would ease off my yoga practice until I could get in to see a chiropractor or osteopath. Nowadays, I go to class as usual, but I try to practice even more mindfully and just ease out of those asanas that are not being very helpful. After all, a day will come where no amount of chiropracty or osteopathy will help and I'll just have to live with it. So practicing while I'm out should help.
And I've noticed something interesting this time around - I think my quadriceps are overcompensating for my wonky hips. I've always built up those muscles much faster than any of my other leg muscles, even when I was dancing. In fact, I always had to pay special attention to lift from the hamstring rather than the quad, and even then I had a hard time with it. Some of this I think is genetic (looking at my dad's sister, whose shape I'm quite similar to, and my mom), but practicing tonight (and my hips are out - chiro appointment tomorrow) I was noticing even more residual stiffness and strain than usual in my quads, particularly in Dandasana, Triang Mukhta(?), and my arch nemesis, Janu Sirsasana B. I spoke to the teacher after (a substitute, but very good and has seen my practice a few times now) and she also thinks that it could be due to all the work N and I have been doing to counteract my tendency to hyper-extend my knees; that I may have been taking some of those corrections a bit too far. She said she'll mention it to N so that she's aware and watching for it too.
One more thing to add to the list. . .
though can I just say that I had forgotten how divine a piping hot shower with
Narcotic shower gel is after a yoga practice. OMG.
