Lord Denning must be the bane of the existance of every 20th Century English Law student. Seriously, just about the time you feel like you're getting to grips with the established case law, when, *boom* up pops Denning like a really annoying jack-in-the-box with some obscure, left-field legal reasoning that totally departs from all known principle

Did he have a better idea generally? By which I mean, would modern law be worse in some net form or fashion had he not broken precedent?
