Opening *more* doors?

Exciting news! It looks like, very quickly, I'm going to be put in the plane... AND, not only as a test engineer, but as a pilot as well!

Woooo!

It's kinda' like "default", really. After getting my SE Commercial, and towing around my ME Commercial, I'm basically the 2nd most qualified student pilot they got here. Oh well... I'll take it. ;)

I got the "run down" on all the things going on with the DA-42 experimental... including some of the problems I may encounter while flying it. (I don't think I can mention them here, but I'll just say... SCARY!)

Problem is... I'm already stretched so thin on time (already falling behind on stuff), but they're asking me to be a TEST pilot!

:o

I don't think I can pass that up.

I'll have to ask Bob over at DSC if he wouldn't mind scaling back some of my morning hours so I can go fly... He *may* take issue with it... I dunno'. We'll see. He definitely likes me and has really put me in some special tutoring positions that he would only offer to guys he has a lot of faith in, but I have the feeling that he'd want to give me *more* responsibility if he could, and asking for a reduction in hours might be a bit disappointing. But... hopefully he'll understand. I mean... it's TEST piloting! :o

One of my co-workers was explaining to me some of the maneuvers they were doing just two days ago. They had to find a reference for full left and right aileron, soooo... it involved at least 8 full left and full right roll. (No barrel rolls, sorry!) But just imagine going back and forth, back and forth, staring at a small 10 point font on a laptop while in a dark back seat, and you'll get the idea of what he was experiencing. He said he was done after 85% of the flight test before they had to set him back for landing. Man... I hope that I can fare well on an entire flight! I've done crazy things before, but constantly? All the time? We'll see. :) It definitely sounds like fun!

Anywho... I'm still worried that I'm going to crack under all the strain of the stuff that I have to do. We'll see. At the moment, though, I don't see how I can pass this particular opportunity up!

flight, life
