That was strange. I dreamed that I was teaching astronomy at a university. Some of my friends were there. But, really, it was a lecture hall of people from all walks of life. I was halfway through my lecture when I paused and asked if anyone had any questions. There was a very young, blond girl who timidly raised her hand. She asked something, but it was very quiet. At first I didn't hear her question and asked her to repeat it. Again, I couldn't hear. When I couldn't hear her a third time, I literally walked up the stairs to her position and kneeled down next to her. In a very quiet and shy voice, she asked me about genes and "what was the deal with it?".
So I turned it around on the students.
"This young lady has asked a very relevant question in astronomy... how does life fit into the universe? What role does it play? And what goes into its development? In so asking these questions, so too do we look to ourselves and our own place in the universe. So I ask you, class... what *is* the meaning of life?"
And, lo, everyone in the entire class started yelling out in a cacophonic clamor of discord, each person with their own view, belief and definition. But... everyone had smiles on their faces. And, somehow, I could understand almost all of them! I tell you, it was beautiful! I had a great big ol' smile on my face. Then I started making this big ol' speech from the heart about life and its place in the universe. That was a very happy experience for me. :D
