Isn't this the audition for Pippin?

So I finally watched Hellcats, which premiered on Rosh Hashanah so I was unable to watch on original airing.

MY REACTION IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU MIGHT EXPECT.

I really have no interest in the voiceover lead (the one played by Aly- Marti?). Whatever, dude. It's all about the hot coach (who is CRAZY if she ends up with that asshole football coach dude instead of her awesome boyfriend, btw) and, above all, bizarrely brunette Ashley Tisdale.

(Yes, I know, it's shocking that the perfectionist who just desperately wants to succeed is my favorite character. I HAVE ALL OF THE LAYERS. But seriously, as much as I love the snarky outcast, it's getting very by-the-book. )

I love how the plot is basically Bring it Ons 1-4 plus OTH and Dawson's Creek shoved in a blender, with some Stick It thrown in, and then added a healthy dash of Young Americans. I love that all of the characters are basically Southern stereotypes. I love that I can call most of the plot arcs already, based entirely on the foreshadowing in this ep. I love that the one effective surprise (well, it would have been a surprise if it wasn't in the PROMO, CW) that went against the storyline they were setting up is that after their fight, Savannah still voted for her to be on the squad. I LOVE THAT THEY ARE ROOMMATES AND SAVANNAH JUST ROLLS WITH IT, ALL "HERE, YOU CAN HAVE ONE OF MY HELLCATS COVERLETS! :D? :D?" Also Lewis seems awesome, and I like that they have a villain character whose motivations I can actually buy. It's like if Carver had started a stealthy war campaign against Missy in BiO.

Actually, that would be the best movie ever.

Considering my adolescence featured Dawson's Creek, I was surprised that this felt a little risque at times, considering the target audience. Because it WASN'T worse than the Creek. I think it just felt self-consciously ~edgy~ at times, and I am possibly growing out of that. I get it, you're being rebellious, DO SOMETHING WITH THAT.

(This may be why I like Savannah. She has no edge. She's practically a circle.)

I also noticed that nothing I found at all edgy was something I would have found edgy in a YA novel.

Also, every time they refer to "pre-law" I think of the Survivor Vanuatu commentary where Eliza's like "They say I'm pre-law. What the hell is pre-law? That's not a major." ALL OF THE HEARTS.

TL,DR: Hellcats is the biggest cinematic achievement since Bring it On 4.

I miss college a lot today. Mostly because I can't find an opportunity to wear my raptor socks anywhere in public. :(
