Shouldn't this week be date night?

We've reached that time in the Big Brother season (this happened last year too) when almost everyone either filters me out or scrolls right past my posts. I would love to be indignant over this, but... honestly? It's one of the brightest times of my summer. When everyone's reading my BB posts, I feel a compulsion to make them, you know. Interesting. Now? It's just me, and my glee, and my show.

Oh, my show.

And, I mean, you'd think a human being wouldn't need to make this many posts about Big Brother? But you'd also think a human being would be able to do things without freaking out that right now I can't.

Hence: Big Brother.

So I've been having a lot of conversations with people about BB lately. This makes sense, as it's the f6/f5 week (historically good dramatically; for example, this upcoming Tuesday's episode? Last year at this time it gave us NPH, plus Janie and the Morphomatic, and the doorbell-- Is it bad that I'm hoping to go at least two for three?), and this tends to be a make-or-break week for fans.

I'm actually pretty calm. I love this week. It's the week all the vicious lying and backstabbing really kicks into gear.

And for me, Big Brother isn't about, you know, the Pure and Joyful Experience of Fourteen People Trapped in a House. It's about (A) stupid conversations [your samples for today: HGs play Zuma Zuma with evicted houseguests; Dani and Zach talk about how much they love Heroes], (B) insanely hilarious fighting, and (C), most importantly? Strategy.

Which is why I actually enjoy seeing most HGs throw each other under a bus. It makes good television, and it shows they're playing the damn game. What I can't stand is when they get desperate and resort to emotional appeals which have nothing to do with gameplay.

(Now, personally, I would be all about the emotional appeals. And the crying. But this is why I am not on Big Brother. You cannot play BB if you are easily emotionally manipulated. You just can't. You have to be fucking stone cold, and if possible, sociopathic tends to be nice.)

I'm fascinated by the people who are saying this season is meaner than usual; this season features more attacks; this season goes further past the boundaries of taste than any previous season of Big Brother. That is complete and utter bullshit. CBS has not found a new low; like Barney (appropriately! Neil Patrick Harris WHAT UP), they have found a new middle. What's happening is that, because the fandom is more split than- you know, I'd say in ever, but really just in the past few years? Because it's more split, every attack seems harsher WHEN IT'S ON YOUR PEOPLE and less mean when it's attacking FROM your people.

Which, I mean, I wish was an accusation of hypocrisy against others, but I think we all know how I feel about people harshing on my Donato Mafia buzz, so. Really, it's all of us.

(I am entertained that I'm pretty sure since week 2 or 3, I haven't once had every BB friend of mine watching; people take breaks based on their OTC. Hee.)

I'm actually finding this season much easier to deal with than last year, because last year I had two HGs I adored who were sometimes in direct competition with each other. Which made every week stressful, no matter what happened.

This year? I have a hierarchy. Dani is my favorite. People who actively work to keep Dani safe are tier 2. People who would not delight in throwing Dani under a bus are tier 3. People who actively want her out of the game are tier 4. It's been like this since, what, week 1? I know by the time she got first-week veto I was already strongly considering her for my #1 HG. (I will admit that Nick liking her did not hurt. Because, Nick.)

So this is how the stress of my week goes:

1. Did Dani get HOH? (If yes, proceed to 8. Otherwise, go ahead to 2.)

2. Did someone who would NEVER NOMINATE DANI get HOH? (If yes, proceed to 8. Otherwise, go ahead to 3.)

3. Does the HOH have a target who is not Daniele? (If yes, proceed to 7. Otherwise, go ahead to 4.)

4. Is Daniele nominated? (If yes, weep and then move on to 5. If no, go on to 6.)

5. Did Daniele or one of her allies win veto? (If yes, move on to 8. If no, move on to 6.)

6. Is Daniele on the block after the veto ceremony? (If yes, move on 7. If no, move on to 8.)

7. Does Daniele have the votes to stay in the house? (If yes, move on to question 8. If no, move on to part 9.)

8. Rejoice! and spend the rest of the time watching the feeds for someone to have a nervous breakdown and/or a giant bitchfight. (Move on to 10.)

9. Sulk a great deal, and then start fervently rooting for one of Daniele's closest allies, and hope that there's a giant blow-up on the feeds over evicting Daniele soon. (Move on to 10.)

10. Who got HOH? Are they pro-Daniele?

In conclusion, I am annoyed I have to go back to work now, because I would like to catch up on the feeds, and also, I start classes on Thursday, so people should be around to do things with me until then, because otherwise I'm pretty much not leaving my apartment from tomorrow at 5:30 until I absolutely have to leave the house for class.

In extra conclusion, I would like a pony, please. Or at least a cookie. One or the other.

bb, tv: big brother 8, bb8: dani
