i forgot to mention a very sad part of our trip...
while we were in line for goliath (about a 2 hour wait), patrick received a phone call from his friend that one of patrick's kayaking buddies, shane hulsey, had died the previous day on the 'suicide section' of the little river canyon.
shane was there when patrick took his swift water rescue class on the ocoee (shane was an instuctor), they had alot in common and he and patrick become fast friends. shane borrowed someones boat to show patrick down the ocoee.
shane was a very accomplished kayaker (he made a career of teaching kids about the cahaba), we still don't know what happened. this is a horrible tragedy. shane was 33 and has a wife of 2 years. please keep their family in your thoughts.
needless to say patrick is very upset about this. but i was very proud of him for going paddling the next day on the coosa. i don't think i could have done it.
