This was originally going to be a rather complicated and long Ino/Shika story that got started 'cause some girl fell in love with Shikamaru and Ino was jealous and blah blah blah... Plus Hinata/Neji 'cause I love that pair.... But here is the trashness:
Strange Love
“I heard she’s coming here!” Ino said, excitedly. For once, she had let her golden hair down and it was swinging wildly around her shoulders like a sleek, living waterfall. Her hands were ‘talking’ almost as fast as she was. “She’s coming this week! I don’t know when, but she’ll be here… and sign autographs and all!”
Sakura stretched and pulled her hair into a short ponytail. “Who is this again?”
“Nekoi Kitsu! Only, like, my FAVORITE actress!” Ino held up a hand and began ticking off fingers. “She was in Hunter Nin Reversal, Ninja Nightmare, and Super Shinobi Love.” Ino sighed happily and clasped her hands together. “Kitsu-saan…” she said dreamily in the voice she usually reserved for talking about Sasuke.
Sakura shrugged a little and turned to their companion- Hinata- who was sitting on the grass just a little downhill from the two girls. It had been Sakura’s idea for the three of them to picnic together, and she had even invited TenTen… though the older girl had declined. Of course Hinata’s arms were clutched close to her chest and her cheeks were bright pink as though she was embarrassed to be out in the sunlight. But Sakura was determined to open her up just as Ino had helped her out so long ago. “Hinata-chan, are you familiar with Nekoi-san?”
The dark haired girl nodded a little and pushed the tips of her fingers together. “Ki-Kitsu-chan comes to our house a lot… she’s f-f-friends with my cousin Te-Tenpiko-san.”
“Tenpiko?” Ino said, blinking. “You mean that one with the weird eyes?”
Hinata looked down at her fingers. “Sh-she’s not that weird. P-p-papa tells me there used to be o-others like her. When Uchiha a-and Hyuuga were m-more… when… when Uchiha used to b-be around.”
“I still think it’s messed up,” Ino said, throwing a dandelion at Sakura. “One Sharingan eye and one Byakugan eye… it’s just not right. I mean, you guys are freaky enough as it is.”
“INO!” Sakura frowned at her friend and threw the dandelion back. “That was rude! Hinata-chan, I think you’re lovely…”
“N-n-no, Sakura-san…” Hinata smiled a little, for once “sh-she’s right. We are a little f-freaky.” And then she laughed. It was a very light, girlish laugh, but it was so unusual for Hinata to laugh that it almost made the other girls stare at her.
“You seem chipper,” Ino commented. She began ripping the dandelion apart with her slender fingers. “In fact, you’ve smiled more in the past week than you have in all the time I’ve known you. And that’s a damn long time.” The blonde threw the dandelion bits into the air and brushed her fingers off. “What’s so great about this week?”
Hinata’s blush deepened. “I-I don’t kn-kn-know wh-what you’re t-talking about, I-I-Ino-san…”
“Oooooo… now you can’t get away! Your stutter always gets worse when you’re keeping a secret!” Ino rolled around on the grass so that she was nearly in Hinata’s lap. Bright, demanding blue eyes stared up into Hinata’s shining white ones. “You’ve got a boyfriend, haven’t you!!”
“N-no!!!” The dark haired girl’s hands suddenly flew up to cover her face and she laughed and shook her head at the same time. “No! Don’t- I … I don’t!”
Now Sakura was intrigued, too. “A crush then!!!” She was rewarded with another nervous laugh. “Hinata-chan! Who is it? You have to tell us! We won’t tell, promise!”
Shy, white eyes peeped over the tips of Hinata’s fingers, and both of the other girls could see the smile and the fear deep in them. “I-i-it’s a b-big secret…” she said softly. “N-no one… i-it… it would never work out. I-I-I am…” The toes that peeked out of her sandals curled shyly. “Don’t tell!” she said suddenly, her hands dropping into her lap.
“Never!” Ino said and raised her hand in a salute.
“I wouldn’t think of it!” Sakura said vehemently, scooting closer to the other two.
Hinata’s face was so red it was almost purple. Several times she opened her mouth just to shut it again and fidget with the drawstrings on her jacket. Sakura sat back on her heels patiently while Ino sighed and moved around on the grass as though she had an itch. “It’s- it’s…” Hinata’s voice was much higher than usual when she finally spoke. “Neji-oniisan!” she blurted out more loudly than she intended to. And then her hands covered her face again in utter embarrassment.
Ino sat up so fast that she became dizzy and flopped back down the next second. Sakura just stared, openmouthed.
“Y-your cousin?” Ino finally managed to say.
And Hinata burst into tears.
“Shut up, Ino, you know the Hyuuga only marry within the clan.” Sakura scooted over and hugged Hinata to her. “Byakugan is a highly volatile trait. If she married out of the clan… then her children could be blind! You know that… we learned this in basic history of Konoha genetics.”
Ino waved her hand. “I don’t mean cousin that way… I know what the Hyuuga do, Sakura. I’m not stupid.” She reached out and patted Hinata’s knee comfortingly. “I mean that Neji’s kind of a little bastard. He’s not exactly open to … people. He’s not even really all that nice.”
“I kn-knooooowww…” Hinata wailed from behind her hands as Sakura stroked her back. “He ha-ha-hates meee!” Her slender shoulders were hunched forward.
“Geez… talk about mood swings,” Ino said, sitting up slowly and joining the girlie hug session. “One minute you’re so happy about it and the next you’re crying like a little girl.”
“Oh please,” Sakura said, smiling lightly over the top of Hinata’s head. “You’re exactly the same way about Sasuke-kun.”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
“Well… if I am, so are you,” Ino said sulkily, leaning her chin on Hinata’s back, which had stopped shaking. Her hands found Sakura’s and their fingers twined together. “You’re such a dork, Sakura-chan.”
“Mmmm…” Sakura enjoyed times like this when Ino forgot their rivalry and relaxed into their friendship. The blonde liked to touch Sakura, and Sakura didn’t mind. Despite her tough attitude, Ino was very needy. And that made Sakura feel wanted. Being wanted by Ino… even if it was just in friendship… was much nicer than her distant crush on Sasuke. And with Hinata there, it was even more pleasurable. Girls must have a bit of a pack mentality, she thought.
Ino pulled away and stood up, stretching in the sunlight. “Well, Hinata-chan, you have a good chance of an arranged marriage, you know.”
Hinata rubbed at her eyes wearily. “I know… b-but I don’t want…”
Blah. It's dead. Gone. *kills it*
