I want a Tet-chan
I've been re-reading Petshop of Horrors (because I can't stay away from the dear count for too long). So I was thinking... if Sofu D is Q-chan, how the hell does he send our D the kimono and tourist-y stuff from Japan in the third "Flowers and the Detective" chapter?
This is my answer to that problem:
Q-chan + internet = Sofu D in two places at once
I got the second volume of Shin Petshop today, too. I am still really excited about it even though there are two- get this, two- panels with Leon.
I'd already read all but one of the stories, courtesy of Night Exile. But still. Who doesn't love the kappa story? D freaking out over a) not knowing what a kappa is and b) finally seeing one is just too cute for words. And I saw nuances in the Papa D/Vesca storyline that I hadn't noticed before.
Speaking of Vesca... some idiot decided to translate his name as Wescar. >_< Esscuse me, but they already translated it as 'Vesca' in vol. 10. Please keep it the same. I don't care if one is wrong. It's called professionalism, people.
I have to say, I don't mind Rau so far. Mostly because I don't see the tension between him and D that was there with Leon. There seems to be three things that can get under D's skin- sugar, wildlife, and Leon. As long as Rau doesn't make that four, I'm good. Leon is LEON, and Rau is a plot device. >3
Of all the Americans I've met in anime/manga, Leon is by far my favorite. He may be loud, smelly, annoying, embarrassing, inconsiderate, and impolite, but he also has a sense of justice, bravery, kindness, and is willing to change. He breaks my heart with how blindly head-over-heels he is for D. I feel honored that Leon is among the list of fictional Americans. And if he was a real person, I would vote for him for President. Srsly.
I have to admit, I started bawling at the end. The parallels between D getting pissy about Leon in Shin Vol 1 and Leon getting pissy about D in vol 2 made me weepy. And on the second to last page where it says "Count D, let me get onto your boat." I just sobbed. It may well have been the voice of the winged lion statue, but it seems to go along with Leon very nicely.
Anyway. Enough of my raving about Leon. I just usually rave about D, so it's time his husbando got some credit from me.
I've decided each time a new Shin Petshop comes out in English, I'm going to bake a cake. It will be my D cake.
Okay, enough of that. But there will be a fic some day soon about Leon angst. And maybe Pon-chan angst. Is Pon-chan angst even possible? I intend to find out!
EDIT: D's seiyuu is also the voice of Iruka. I can die happy now. xD
