WHO: Beat [abeatdown] and Rhyme [skullheart] WHEN: right after this WHERE: Cafetaria SUMMARY: Beat and Rhyme reunion~ NOTES: I don't mind if other characters want to join in. :3
Beat arrived quickly enough. Even if he was still prone to getting lost in the Sub, he at least knew the route from his room to the cafeteria like the back of his hand, lured by Watanuki's damn good cooking. He was a little apprehensive; he didn't get why Rhyme didn't remember anything about the Game. This was one big, confused mess he couldn't make sense out of. Yet when they'd talked she still seemed so cheerful, and calm, and accepting, just like she'd been when they first arrived in the Game. What kind of big brother was he, freaking out on her like that when it was supposed to be the other way around? He had to cool it, put on a brave face, figure out what was what.
Of course, as soon as he arrived in the cafeteria his resolve melted out. She was really there, alive and not a Noise or a pin or whatever the hell else, but he was frozen in the doorway. "Rhyme...?"
Beat was unable to hold her gaze. What was he supposed to say? She remembered nothing that had happened to them over those two weeks in the Game. Forget their situation now, she probably didn't even remember they'd died. How did he go about even explaining it? She'd never left his thoughts, not even since he came here, but now he'd gotten her back he didn't know what to do.
So, he did the only thing that made sense: he swept her into an almost crushing hug, burying his face in her shoulder. Not to hide the fact he was on the verge of tears or anything. Nope. "Rhyme," his voice was muffled as he spoke, "You... you got no idea how much I missed you, yo."
"Beat, you're acting like you haven't seen me in years. What's wrong?" Rhyme asked smiling. How was she suppose to know about the whole Reaper's Game thing?
She hugged her brother back. Beat may look tough on the outside, but inside, he's just a big fluffy teddy bear. "Come on Beat, toughen up!"
"W-who's not tough? Cut me some slack, yo," Beat sniffed and looked away, letting her go long enough to fold his arms defensively. He'd never been all that good at lying to her, and he knew it. "Ain't I allowed ta be happy to see ya?"
"They our friends," Beat replied vaguely, frowning. She really didn't remember. It made him wonder how Neku was doing without him. If Shade really meant it when he said he'd be sent back to exactly where he'd been taken from, Phones'd be fine... But he couldn't help but feel worried.
As an afterthought, he added, "But far as I know, they ain't here."
Beat waved her off, grinning playfully. "Only room for one Beat, yo!"
At her suggestion, he was back to frowning in thought. "So like, you sayin' you from before my time...?" he trailed off. It made sense, kind of. He'd been worrying they'd taken her memories away, just like the Game, but wouldn't she still be a Noise if she was from his time? This was so confusing. "Me, I was in the Game 'fore I wound up here."
"Mhm! That would be a good explanation right? Oh- You keep on mentioning a Game."
She had never seen Beat this worked up over some game before. It must be one special game. "What game are you talking about? I don't remember that at all..."
"You don't remember what went down after you followed me?" he asked, sitting on the end of the closest table. He ignored the chairs; this wasn't like school, no teachers to throw bitchfits at him for it. "We was both in it, man. Everythin' was my fault, so I should tell ya, but..." He looked uncertain.
"Well... when I was following you, you suddenly stopped running, so I stopped. Then suddenly I heard a ton of people yelling and then you turned around and grabbed me... then suddenly I was here."
"That's 'cause..." Beat struggled with himself for a moment, glaring at his shoes, hating what he was about to say. "They was yellin' 'cause that car came outta nowhere, remember? I tried savin' you, yo, but I was too slow." The rest went without saying. Moreover, he didn't want to say it.
"The Reaper's Game, man! No way is that my Game. Not yet, 'least," Beat replied, looking offended. "We was playin' the Game for a second shot at life. Phones an' Shiki, too. We had to do missions an' fight these things called Noise for seven days."
"Hm. I see. I guess Shade took me before I entered the Reaper's Game then. And he took you from afterward."
This was all really weird, but it makes sense in their situation. "So if you win the Reaper's Game, we get a second chance at life? That's really neat."
Of course, as soon as he arrived in the cafeteria his resolve melted out. She was really there, alive and not a Noise or a pin or whatever the hell else, but he was frozen in the doorway. "Rhyme...?"

"Hello Beat!" she said as cheerful as ever. Then noticing the frown on her brother's face, she frowned herself. "Beat? What's wrong?"

"Hey... Beat, you weren't kidding when you mentioned... Ne-ku? and Shiki right? I don't remember ever meeting them. Who are they?"

"Hehe, just kidding. Hm... maybe Shades took us from different times. What were you doing before you got here?"

Rhyme shook her head. That's all I can remember.

"Then, why are we still here? And... your game, how were we playing it if... we were dead?"
