he likes my grandparents! and I think they like him. mostly last evening at dinner the girls talked and the men talked, but after my grandpa finished the Inquisition with him (checking out his financial/work status, apparently) they chatted away on Ethiopia and Kenya, then Grandpa talked him around the block on printing. We took a nice walk down to Grand Canal Dock to eat at the branch of C's restaurant where they stuck her, which was nice because unlike the city centre one it was quiet and C had plenty of time to come and talk to us herself. We walked back along the river in couples, and there was a bit of time chatting in the hotel room (much nicer, more communal rather than two-and-two talking) before they kicked us out to get to bed early. J wanted to spend the night at mine but had to go pick up his work laptop at home first.
He got back to my place with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers.

I'm also beginning to think J's English sounds more fluent than it was a month ago.
As a final note, I had a stressy ol' sobfest yesterday morning at his place, which he survived with flying colors. What's more, he's figuring out how to guilt me by making me feel like an irresponsible kid, which seems to be what I need, just until I get over this idea that I can act cute and he'll go easy on me.

Memo from the boss offering three days of cover before Paris (two days of double shifts = five classes) plus double shifts for the last two weeks of September (sixteen classes, which is as much as I teach in a one-class month: that means I'd have enough money for living). Though I want to be finished with the thesis before we go to Paris, I might opt for just one of those two classes so I can make sure I have enough time to do whatever last-minute fixes I need? I probably have until the end of this or next week to figure it out. Need to talk to boss today anyway about the work visa thing. And I already have friends offering to help me out if I'm in a pinch in October.

Bottom line: I'll be okay.
