are you coming?

this morning: hills. pain. theoretical max HR reached. my HR monitor said I burned 461 calories in 40ish minutes. Ran into the novices on my way home and gave them all hugs hello. I'm so glad we bonded really well in Georgia. Then I saw a few of them again this evening in Shapiro Theater...

Spontaneously this evening, I aborted room cleaning mid-straighten and trekked to campus to see the opening night of The Vagina Monologues. I knew I needed to see it some time, but hadn't figured out when would work, and i knew nothing was getting done on my room anyway.

I was blown away.

First, I loved that they didn't use notecards. If you have one monologue to memorize, I feel that it's not too daunting a task. It also was probably part of the reason that every woman up there stole the show with her own monologue. You're so much less constricted when you're not bound to a notecard for references and reminders. There was no hint that they might have needed them, not a single flubbed line.
The choreography took a little time to get used to, but I appreciated it once it got into swing. Likewise with the painting between every monologue. The end, with "Eve Ensler" covered in paint and finishing up everyone's drawings with a heart, was of course meaningful. I also came to like the singing. The music choices were great.

Highlights: The Flood (what an accent she pulled off!). Workshop (the facial expressions were fantastic). My Angry Vagina. Of course, The Woman Who Loved to Make Vaginas Happy. They Beat the Girl Out of My Boy (Or So They Tried) -- the metaphors are poignant, I loved the military march evolving into stomp, and hottveganlovah was awesome. My Vagina Was My Village -- I loved that they split this piece into two people, one talking of the before bits in a blue outfit with the other, "not since," in black with blue accent.

Speaking of outfits, I didn't appreciate so much the nonuniformity. It was good that everyone got to choose clothing she liked, but I always did like the black-with-accents, especially at an event like this, where people put personal accents on the canvas of others' stories, much like accents on black attire.

Also, where were any new monologues? This year's felt short (despite the lack of intermission). I still left thoroughly satisfied, but I want to see more and new.

All that said, I LOVED this production. Go, Girls. You really did blow my mind.

at work, I mistyped on the register like twice and Bossman kept me away from it and watching him for a quarter of an hour, announcing every keystroke he made. Other than that, I messed up one sandwich (which I got to take home at the end of the day). They throw away a lot of ends of bread loaves that I would totally save-- for snack or making croutons or something. Anyway, it'll be fine. I'm just there for the lunch rush, when it does indeed get a little crazy (I didn't realize they ever got that much business at once). I work next on Monday.

that's it. now it's bedtime! I did laundry today, too, and took a nap. both very nice. and I got a new icon from someone (credited on my icons page).
