quite a productive afternoon, though not in all the ways I expected.
for one thing, Newbury Comics had Hocus Pocus on sale for $6 less than Strawberries. Since I went to Newbury first, I put it on hold (go me) so I'll have to pick it up tomorrow on my way to afternoon tea with
katancelt as a belated celebration of grad school applications.
I also hit Trident Books because I'm out of workout fiction; found two used books, one guide to Irish and one to Irish grammar; also found Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by serendipity and knew I needed to own it now so it can be completely dogeared by the time I read it to my kids.
I went to Trader Joe's for the first time tonight and was pleasantly amazed. I couldn't resist two boxes of decaf tea: one chocolate, one Irish breakfast. and a mini banana-nut bread, which I'd been thinking about all day today. Next time, I'm getting the perishables: frozen edamame and turkey bacon. and once I run out of cheese I'm trying their goats' milk brie. Such joy.
Rachael told me that the Mass/Beacon shuttle stop to Downtown Crossing was very walkable, so I did. It was long, but pleasant. I went the whole way down Boylston and just before I hit Tremont, I broke out the directions. a helpful lady pointed me the right way.
at Strawberries, I found three used DVDs (Hook, A Fish Called Wanda, and Muppets from Space) and a pair of earbuds at 2/3 off. and debated getting an Eddie from Ohio cd, but then reasoned I could find them cheaper on half.com.
Barnes and Noble that was next door to the Strawberries has closed. I'll have to use the gift card online or something. Anyway, half.com also has good deals on Motel of the Mysteries, and I won't have a problem finding something else I want to buy at Barnes & Noble.
the way back, I killed time at another used book store, this time scoring The Logophile's Orgy, a collection of a bunch of famous people's favorite words; Anois is aris, an old learning-Irish guide; Sociolinguistics and PDQ Bach: A Biography. And then I ate banana-nut bread on the bus back.
Tonight: Stein Night with
allig_710 and maaaybe the Bad Grammer party (maybe just more sleep). Those were at least half-hour walks each way today, and I haven't eaten much, so I'm tired. Beer won't help, but it'll be cheap!
also, IT WAS ABOVE FREEZING TODAY. I couldn't believe our luck.
