it's a loud night out tonight. last night, however, was louder, I think.
a shrewd observation, sadly only shared too late: at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 this morning, Americans could have noted the occurrence of 01:02.03 04/05/06. Europeans'll see it on the fourth of May, what with the inversion of dates over here and all. I would have posted on the time, but I didn't have internet access then.
off to shower: exciting.
oh, and more exciting:
septicidal,
slythrnwitch and I may just have an apartment for next semester/year! Oh, joy!
Even more exciting, perhaps: I might have a specific-er topic for my thesis! I chatted with Máire again today (oh, how I want to know people like her through my entire life) and we talked about thesis, travel, the weather (it's soooo sunny and also warmer by a little), my vacation, and more about the thesis. And how she'd help me set up interviews with friends of hers who are parents of kids in Irish-language schools. We just arrived around 10am at the potential topic of a comparison of two next-door schools, so I have yet to email Janet and see if that's a better topic than "focusing on the attitudes of the young generation towards Irish and the future". One school is really competitive and popular with the upper-middle class, while the other attracts the kids of people seeking asylum. I could look into the differences between the schools: curricula??, and certainly parents' opinions of their own school, the other school, why they chose one over the other.
Steph's put up some resolutions on her door. It's a good idea. Mine include:
Back to lightweight weight
Thesis questions done by the end of next week
Feargal essay by the end of next week
Learn to play the ocarina (cause I got one in Prague)
A sizeable repertoire of tunes on the tinwhistle
I'm having a seder on the second night of Pesach (first night is the last ceili of the year, and since half the people I want to be at the seder are in TradSoc, it'd be stupid to have them on the same night. not to mention that I want to be at the ceili, too.) and so far I have an invite list of 14-16 people. I want need to narrow that down to ten or twelve and have no idea how to do it.
Did I ever mention that Rachel and I got to go Pesach shopping at Kosher Kingdom with my cousin in London? Yes, the place is called Kosher KINGDOM. Yes, the entire place was kashered for Pesach. Yes, they offered me a taste of kosher wine. I had a fabulous time and was also fantastically ripped off, but it was okay because I have kosher food! Macaroons, jelly slices, matzah ball soup mix, and everything I'll need to get me through 8 days except for fruit and meat and matzah.
called the JCC at like half three today only to learn their office hours are 9-2. Left 'em a message asking about pesadeka food. tomorrow is Arts Day and lots of the classes have been cancelled, but not mine -- I have the double session of pragmatics and viking class. And between pragmatics 1.0 and the lunchtime session I'm going to the library to look up a book with a chapter on the two Gaelscoileanna.
Life's cool. Busy, but cool. And I had my first class of Beginners Continued Irish tonight and I've another tomorrow. The teacher's not much older than us. Her name is Máire ni something else that sounds a lot like the other Máire's last name. She dresses trendily and has red nails.
