Another Update

Well yesterday was better. At least I didn't call home crying to my mom again. I am such a baby! I've resigned myself to Cedarville for the semester. I am going to stick it out, but if I hate it, I don't have to come back. But I'm counting down the days until my visit home: Exactly 4 weeks from today. Actually, it's not terrible here. I think I would like it a lot already if I was only 1 or 2 hours from home. Or even 3. But it's FIVE. Somehow I'm just kinda hung up on that. I'm just such a Roanoke girl, but who knows. Maybe that'll change in the next 16 weeks.

Throughout this long week, God has definitely been my rock and comfort. I feel bad because all I do it take, take, take from him. But he is ever faithful, and I can clearly see the benefits of hardship already: I've been faithfully praying and reading this week. Plus we read today in chapel, something to the effect that the ground that sees a lot of rain is the most useful for farming. Hmmmm.

Ok, I have some funny stories. Yesterday, I saw a guy and a girls walking CATS. That's right, cats. Never seen that before. Actually the cats weren't really walking; they were scared and the people were kinda yanking on their leashes, until finally they just picked the kitties up. And today, I was holding the door open for a girl I didn't know and she said "Thank you" and I said "Thank you" back. The IGA has drilled weird conversational skills into me.

My roommate is from Pennsylvania. Today in class the prof handed out "suckers" as prizes for a game. She turned to me and said, "Did you hear what he called them? Suckers? Weird!" Surprised, I was like "Well, what do you call them? Everybody where I'm from calls them suckers." Apparently, they are "lollipops" in Virginia. And I always thought Lollipops were those huge rainbow suckers you got at Disney World. Weird. The students here are from all over the country. A lot of them think it's weird too that we call carbonated beverages "pop." I guess in the south, everything is "coke," and elsewhere, it's "soda." Makes me love the Midwest even more :)

Guy/Girl Politics at Cedarville are weird, too. You either see a group of guys or a group of girls or just one guy with one girl. This has led me to believe that there is very little interaction between sexes before the initial "asking out." This makes me sad. I think friendship is an important base for a dating relationship. But perhaps my observations on the situation here have missed the mark.

Silver lining in today's cloud? Ed, Linda, and E.J. are here visiting! I'm meeting them at 4:15 at the SSC for dinner and a play. It'll be good to see a familiar face!
