It's funny that I just reflected so much on why come to CMU and what one would want to know before coming to CMU, because the dean of the School of Computer Science just asked for volunteers to do tours of Wean Hall (the main building for computer science) to admitted freshmen. Presumably CS freshmen.
Of course I replied back saying that I'd be interested. Hopefully I wouldn't be too constrained in what I must talk about and what I must say, but then again, I'm not exactly looking to throw CMU under the bus. So what would I say in a nutshell?
- If money is a concern, don't worry, because it will be worth the money.
- Only come if you're passionate or just really good at this stuff. You'll just get frustrated, or bored, plus the environment will make you want to leave. If you've never been frustrated about any project you've done before, YOU WILL before you leave here.
- If you're committed to CS and you're choosing between here and somewhere that isn't arguably better than CMU, come here. You'll just get bored there, at least academically.
