You gotta go with what got you there

The continuation of the story of meeting Dylan:

We really hit it off at the bar. So much so that we decided to sit and talk through the first band's whole set, and part of the second band's set, who we did end up catching some of. It was Laura Stevenson and The Cans. They were really good, and Dylan would go on to being in love with them, while I am very much in love with Laura Stevenson's cover of It Ceases To Be Whining. Bomb the Music Industry was on next. They were fantastic as always, but it was disappointing to not hear "Blow Your Brains Out" as the last song. It was surprising how early the show was over. We hung out for a while after the show, and watched John DeDom spraypaint everyone's shirts before leaving. We both decided we were hungry, wanted to go get some food, and none of the nearby options looked appealing. I decided that it might be a good idea to get some diner food in Lakeview. We hopped on the Blue Line, then rode the Belmont bus all the way back to Sheffield Ave. It's funny how the nature and character of the neighborhoods change so much as we ride through them.

We got off the bus and walked up to The Pick Me Up diner for some food. I'd never been there, but thought I'd heard pretty good things and you can't go wrong with a diner. Green Day was playing in there- the live album that BTMI had been talking about during the show, and they had even played a Green Day cover at the show. We got food there- it wasn't memorable, the food. I don't know if I'd go back unless someone else really wanted to go there with me. We finished eating and walked over to Danny's. He was hanging out there. Julie too. I forget if there was anyone else when we got there, but I feel like a few more people, probably Damien, came and went while we were chillin there. We had a guitar-jam sing along. We tried to play and sing Danny's dinosaur song, and I Don't Need You Now, and I played Future 86 and sang with Dylan and he played some WIFS, and guitar jam times really are great.

After a bit, decided to go out, so Danny and Julie (and anyone else? I forget) joined Dylan and I, and we went to Trader Todd's for some karaoke. The bouncer was funny, the cover was a high five, I guess it was late in the night, so we were too late to get put on the list to do karaoke and actually get a chance to sing before close. We had some drinks in the back, as the place was very bro-crowded. I forget if we left and went somewhere else, or stayed until close, but it closed, and we went back outside. We went to that liquor store on the corner near the Belmont redline stop. The liquor store was pretty entertaining, as the whole bar closing time rush had filled it with drunks. There were girls playing hide and seek among the aisles. We went to the coolers to get some beer, and the door creepily opened on its own. While we were waiting in line, a drunk lady fell into a shelf, knocked bottles onto the floor, which broke, and the store staff and bottle-breaker had a heated exchange, which resulted in the breaker paying for the broken. We paid (Dylan thought he was overcharged) and went back to Danny's apartment.

We proceeded to drink and chill for the rest of the night. I went stealth to grab Julie's keys while she was sleeping, so we could go out and get some snacks from 7-11. Just ended up drinkin, snackin, chillin the rest of the night, til finally it was about sun-up, which meant that it was time for Dylan to head to O'Hare to get the bus back to Madison. After a drunk walk to the bus stop- time felt funny because of the drunk and lack of sleep and sun coming up. I left him at his stop on Belmont, in front of that liquor store we were in hours earlier, feeling so different in the early morning sun, all the rowdy crowds gone, closed up. I gave him a kiss on the cheek, and started my walk back to Danny's apartment, where upon returning, I promptly passed out on the couch.
