Meeting up like this, in Yoko's apartment to catch up and be close, be themselves, it's the same as it's been all these years. It’s all the same. Well, not all the same; the cups they bump together now have beer, not juice, in them, and Yoko’s living room now has an alcove with his mother’s picture, but everything else--all the important things--are the same. Aiba is laughing hysterically, crowing in the middle of a story he’d been telling about Matsujun’s face when he discovered Nino eating his last protein bar. Yoko chokes on his beer when Aiba repeats Nino’s very solemn innuendo about having ‘one more bar full of protein Matsujun it’s here in my pants’, and Aiba leans over to smack his back ’helpfully’.
“Quit it--” Yoko manages, wheezing, “Aiba!”
“Yokocho,” answers Aiba sweetly, innocently, sliding off the couch and next to Yoko on the floor.
Yoko’s got himself under control now; he looks down at where he’s managed to knock his beer over. “Damn it,” he says, “can you grab me a towel?”
Aiba, who when they were young would bound to the kitchen and toss a variety of dish towels at Yoko with unadulterated glee at Yoko’s expense, doesn’t even bother. He strips off his shirt instead and uses that to mop up the beer.
“I thought we were supposed to get more mature with age,” comments Yoko, lips quirking.
“I’m saving time, that's mature, isn't it,” answers Aiba, before he hauls Yoko down for a kiss. It's a move that’s as familiar as breathing, Aiba's hands messing up his hair and Aiba's mouth playing over his and Aiba's breath mingling with his while a leg pushes over Yoko's hip and Yoko comes apart.
So in all the important ways, it really is all the same.
