What with explorifyin' this new Google+ thing and the summer steel in the river... I just can't keep up with all of my social networking/blogging! I'm sorry... I'm tryin', though...

Picked up a new North X Northwest 9'6" steelhead/salmon jigging rod and Okuma spinning reel combo... Enjoying it... I can use MUCH lighter rigs now that I could with the older Okuma Celilo/Abu-garcia Ambassadeur combo... It's a little floppier than I'm used to, and I have yet to land a fish on it... closest that I came was a small, dark buck who grabbed it, shook his head three times and dropped it again.

Picked up and Okuma Deimos rod/reel combo to replace my ancient Eagle Claw Black Eagle, the tip end of which I snapped cleanly in half a month ago (the FOURTH rod that I've snapped this season!!!! WTF?!). I'm pretty thrilled with it... it's about half a foot shorter than I'd like for it to be, but it's got a fast enough action for me, which most light rods do not have. Been kicking the trout ass with it.

Also amped up to get some fly casting in, but I'm still having trouble keeping from forming trailing loops. The last time I tried, I was getting a trailer every single cast and finally, after just about throwing my Sage rod in the river, put it up. I know that I'm over-powering my cast, but I can't figure out why. I'll be back on it this morning after the early-morning steelheading. If I can afford it, I'm going to enroll in a three-day, 6-hour class next month... maybe they'll be able to get me to cast more than 20 feet without making a hopeless mess out of my leader!

Then it's back to town to get dog food, get the car for work, pick up the dingoes and then off for my last work-day of the week.
