Stop Fucking With My Joy
So, I finally saw the premiere of the Young Justice cartoon. As a huge fan of the comic, I already knew I was going to have issues, and have already given a rant before I saw it. But now I can deliver a much better one. ;P
Let me start by saying that the Young Justice show is not that bad as a show. It's amusing, fun, the animation is quite good, and the fighting choreography is amazing. That said, let me completely negate my compliments by this next word: BUUUUUUUUUUT...
First things first, the CHARACTERS! Now, apparently, this takes place on Earth-16, despite the fact that it was never stated in the show, but if you pay attention to internet press releases, you should already know that. This is their reasonings for screwing up with who is in the group, why there's no Teen Titans, and all that other random crap. But...fine. Bastards.
Anyway, now...my BOYS.
Kid Flash. First off, there is NO Kid Flash in Young Justice, it's Bart as IMPULSE, he doesn't become Kid Flash till, like, WAAAAAAY later. This goes back to the whole "Earth-16" thing as now Young Justice was formed by the first sidekicks. And, yeah, he's actually a great Wally. And I love Wally. He was the Flash that I fell in love with. But...he's NOT Bart!! Who is the main reason I initially picked up Young Justice.
Robin. Okay, so apparently this is supposed to be Dick. It's been confirmed, going back to "Earth-16" again. Blah blah blah. BUT he's not really either Dick or Tim. He has this cheeky, obnoxious, trickster personality, that, I'll admit, I kinda like...but he's NOT the personality equivalent of anybody. It's like they made up this new person, gave him Tim's costume, Tech Savyness, and Dick's name.
Superboy. I can't even express how upset I am with this. Let me put it this way: Comic!SB: "You know what's awesome? Being me. Because I'm Superboy. And that's awesome!" Cartoon!SB: "AAAAAAAAAAANGST!!" O.o What the...I don't even...WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!?!
And, yeah, those are the ones I care about, as I'm a big OT3er with them. So, I'll probably ignore Aqualad in this rant. Mainly because I never really cared about him much so I don't know anything about him so...I have nothing to complain about. I mean, I think that they just created him for the sake of the show...because I remember reading an Aqualad in Teen Titans Year One, and this was most definitely not him. But, yeah, I really never cared enough. If anyone wants to give me a run down on how they screwed up his character, you're more than welcome. But, Miss Martian? Really? Young Justice has some great female characters! Now, I may have gotten a little annoyed with Donna, little miss "I love Superboy and that is my only character trait", but COME ON! I don't want this little Mary Sue drop out! You could have given us Arrowette, and saved us from Speedy's "I'm angry! No one understands me but Evanescence!" little rant. Which, let's face it, is gonna suck for him as he didn't even get in this new YJ club. Which I'm happy about, because we already have an archer, thank you very much.
Now, for specific good things about this show: Kid Flash and Robin? Massively shippy. Despite the fact that the characters are way wrong, I may still get my OT3 somehow. Also: "I see Flash and Flash jr!" "He's names' Speed, duh." "No, Speedy is Green Arrow's sidekick." "Well that makes no sense." XD It's funny because I've had that exact conversation!!
Anyway, yeah. If you separate it from Young Justice, it's not a bad show. If they had advertised it as a new Teen Titans, as that's what it is, then I'm sure I'd have much fewer problems. But now there's NO chance of me getting an ACTUAL Young Justice tv show! Damnations!!
