Sand crashing over their heads? Definitely not okay. He pulled back. "There's still electricity, so it's not an accident," he pointed out, rubbing his thumb. Unfortunately, Shikamaru knew next to nothing about it, and couldn't suggest anything about rewiring.

"You think someone's intentionally cornering us," he continued, neither an agreement nor a disagreement. Shikamaru didn't want to state the obvious and he was still a little nervous about Gaara, given the last hour or two, but it was better to have everything covered...not to mention that it gave them something to discuss rather than locking them in awkward silence. He pressed his fingers together as he thought. "We're well-matched, though. You're way more powerful, but your jutsu works better against a stationary target and I can keep people from moving. Besides, you can protect yourself with that shell thing, so it's not like you're in any danger. If someone's planning something against you, they're inattentive or they didn't do their research. More likely, they want to keep you from getting somewhere, so we've got to get out of here fast." His voice changed slightly as he spoke, holding more confidence, and it seemed that he'd momentarily forgotten his role as a nervous teenage boy who kept coming to this damn place despite being way too smart to set foot in the godforsaken country without a direct and unavoidable order.

He waited for Gaara to either confirm his opinion, reject his opinion, or attach him to the wall with a sand-spear through the chest.
