Description: Benjamin at the Continental Congress...

Benjamin took his time soaking in the words he had just read... They seemed to each flutter towards him and fill his mind with enchanting thoughts of freedom. When he finally looked up at Thomas, he could see the worry in the young man's eyes. He looked over towards John next and gave a slight smile, which made John scowl. Livingstone and Sherman looked apprehensively at each other and waited for Benjamin to say something. Ben looked back at Thomas before he began, memorizing each line set in the southernor's face.
"It is an intriguing essay..." Ben began with great care," but it is not yet perfect."
Thomas gave a sorrowful sigh and turned to look out the window. Roger simply put a thin hand to his face and began to read. The only one who seemed outraged was John, who jumped from his chair and began to scream.
"Dr. Franklin, you have over-stepped your boundaries. To call this document imperfect is like calling our Lord imperfect. I will not stand for this..."
"It can be fixed John," Benjamin said as he motioned for John to sit. "It simply needs re-working."
Benjamin grabbed his quill and began to scratch out words and insert new ones. He tried not to look at poor Thomas, who stood at the window and frowned. For the next few hours the only noise heard in the room was the fervent scratching of the quill and the disatisfied grunts of Mr. Adams.
Night had fallen upon the metropolis before Franklin put down his quill. Sherman and Livingstone had long since gone home, wanting to go to bed. Only Franklin, Adams, and Jefferson remained in the cramped and humid room. John was snoring lightly in the worn chair, often whispering his wife's name in his sleep. Once Thomas heard the quill stop moving, he turned and faced Ben. His face seemed to morph into a child's, making him appear as though ready for a scolding rather than a conference between two adults.
"I know that it is for the best..." Thomas said as he looked at the ravaged document.
"We must all sacrifice what we love for our cause to flourish," Ben whispered. "John, wake up, it's done."
John opened his eyes and blinked rapidly, angry that they had woken him. He noticed the paper, looking at it with pity. He silently stood and gave a quick bow to the two gentlemen before leaving.
"Good night, Dr. Franklin," Thomas whispered.
"Good night, Thomas..." Ben smiled as he blew the candles out, putting the room in complete darnkess. He knew, deep in his heart, that the document he had just touched would forever change the course of world history.
