Had a weekend with the Polleys and extended Polleys. It wasnt nearly as scary or bad as I thought it would be they didnt call me a dirty catholic once. His parents were really nice and his auntie betty and Uncle eric were lovely, mainly as I had the nice big double guest bed and Rich slept on the living room floor hahahha. They didnt even comment on the giant bruising all over my arm (my gp gave me a bloodtest but has managed to butcher my arm creating an impressive giant bruise cluster that looks like I am a smack addict) so I felt I should explain why my arm was that way.
The only odd part of the weekend was the dedication ceremony (baptism to me) of his cousin, as his cousin belongs to an evangelical christain church were there was a rock band singing god tunes to a gathered congregation of people in a pit jumping and punching the air in excitment with the occasional person just stood taking it in from a distance with a tear in their eye. This was followed (ten minutes later)by a woman pulled straight from the deep south looking god channels talking about all the beautiful faith in the room. The whole lot of us looked bemused and uncomfortable and Eric even said when the music returned that he didnt read anywhere in the bible that god was deaf and this is coming from a man who is a minister.
Me, Rich and his cousins managed to escape for an hour to starbucks and his Dad txt us when it was finished. His cousins have even said we can crash at theirs if we ever visit belfast if we dont want to stay at his parents all weekend which is really generous considering I had only just met them. I think generous and kind sums up most of his family actually. His mum even said I was nice for an english girl which apparently is a compliment.
