This weekend a system I have played for four years ended with a bang. I really enjoyed going through the system and playing with new people.

The system has some issues I hate like the players lack of ability to stay IC as this rubs off and I end up annoying myself but this isn't a ref issue but a player one.

Oddly, although this was a great event it ( Read more... )

I found the dropping Oc to be an ongoing problem with Crusades, and as you say, its contagious. Its hard to stay IC when someone is OC right in your ear...

It happened at Jade Empires as well, not as much but I think its to do with the players.

yeah I agree. Some of the caliphate players (the ones who spent a lot of time lurking round the fire) are bad for it.

Doesn't help that one of the Refs has a habit of chatting OC to his mates while roleplaying is occuring nearby. It's a game culture thing and the refs know about it, and try to resolve it but I think that the group of players are so set in their way of doing things it'll be hard to shift.

Saying that, I find it nigh on impossible to stay IC if I'm RPing with mates, I'd suspect any one individual there would be awesome at staying IC if in an unfamiliar group.

No, that doesnt help. I always got the impression that some people basically wanted the 'sit around drinking beer, occasionally hit stuff" model of LRP.

Nev and I were talking about this last night, it seems that IC occurs when there is a 'scene' or event to respond to, be it talky or hitty.

Some of the extra plot my group grabbed was because we did more than respond to the scene...
