:-) The "gnat on speed" part? That was stolen from another LJ friend, rillalicious, who often said she had the attention span of a gnat on speed. It seemed to fit for me, so I just snatched it...
It sounds especially superiour if you quote in a foreign language and then say that the translation doesn't work too well because it's an idiom. Impresses people like whoa...
Or - better still - just insert foreign words when you speak, it contributes to the Verfremdungseffekt between you and the listeners, thus establishing, perhaps, an air of déjà vu. The hoi polloi will then stand in awe... ;-D
Such a pity, though, that my ineptitude of inventing suitably cosmopolitan rejoinders in a timely fashion all too often interferes with my desire to voice my opinion of my fellow people in appropriate terms.
A comeback simply does not have the desired cutting edge if it's delayed by hours.
*sigh*
I should borrow my brother's mind. He at least can remember fitting Latin epigrams for most situations in life, even if he doesn't create them himself. Martial can be quite to the point, even several centuries after his demise.
*stares*
Deutsch ist deine Lieblingssprache?? You don't even hear Germans say that!
All I ever hear from people I know is that German's way too difficult.
*wanders off*
Ignore me, I seem to be on a sugar high or something and can't stop reading the flists flist..

You're very welcome on this journal, I love your sub-titled (or whatever it is that appears as your name on Gmail notices). Where does it come from?

It could be. Maybe I should check, I might be quoting something here and don't even know it.

May I friend you? We seem to have the same literary references...

Though I must warn you, my journal consists mostly of ramblings about work with very little literary value...
