Kakashi: *shrugs* "Same thing."
Minato: "No. Not the same thing."

Minato watched his silver haired student as he stood silently before the blond. Well, this conversation was stunningly enlightening. Minato, not one to be quiet for any length of time blinked his blue eyes at the smaller version of Sakumo. Finally Kakashi made a move to speak, which was good because he was about to start ripping the hair out of his skull with anticipation. The only reason he hadn’t spoken (and therefore relieve his anxiety) was that Kakashi had walked up to him, and it was only polite to allow him to make the first move towards conversation.

The young silver haired boy opened and closed his mouth a few times beneath his mask, shifted his weight, and just continued to blink at his Sensei. Minato, meanwhile, was riding a rollercoaster of anxiety. It was obvious to the Jounin that his student had something to say and he was nervous about it, but the antisipation was killing him. Really, it was time the shit hit the fan, so to speak. The Namikaze raised a hand and scratched the back of his head, as per usual for when he was starting a conversation.

“Would this be more comfortable if conducted in my home?” Sure, the staggering speech wasn’t normal for most, but that was part of what gave him his charm. Actually, it was more or less his form of speaking when he wasn’t sure what to say. Most females found it charming, but in reality he tried not to because it embarrassed him. His student nodded, and he turned, leading the youth to his apartment around the corner from the market they were currently in the middle of (and had severely pissed off many elderly women attempting to get food for cranky elderly husbands by being there). Opening the door and ushering the Hatake inside, he closed the door behind himself and removed his sandals. Kakashi followed his example and sat on the couch, shifting around to get comfortable while Minato sat himself in his favourite armchair by the hearth.

“So, you wanted to speak with me?” Kakashi’s raven eyes darted up to Minato’s face, met his own sapphire eyes, then went back to staring at the flooring with a light blush staining his pale cheeks mostly covered by a navy mask. Now Minato knew it was serious: Kakashi never showed any such emotion to anyone, as if emotion was below him or something. Ever since his father commited seppuku, Kakashi had been like that; why would he change now?

“Sensei, you know how you say actions speak louder than words?” Minato nodded, unsure of where the chibi was going with that statement. Perhaps he needed some advice on how to deal with Obito: in that case, kicking the shit out of him would not be okay. Minato, now concerned for the youthful Uchiha’s health, frowned.

“Now Kakashi--” He was cut off by a lapful of Hatake, and stunned as the Jounin was and as much as he wished no ill upon his student, he dumped him. However, his attempt to be rid of the sudden parasite did not go according to plan. Unfortunately, the youth was quick to grab handfuls of clothing, dragging his teacher down with him. One might think that while falling from such a slight distance, you wouldn’t be able to comprehend your own movements. However, Minato was a Jounin for a reason. Knowing full well that at the rate they were going he would end up crushing the poor kid, he shot out one arm, the other safely pinning Kakashi to Minato’s chest. He cringed as the palm of his outreaching hand hit the hard surface of the flooring, managing to brace against the impact and not jostle the Hatake too much.

Throughout the fall, Kakashi’s black eyes remained on the vest on his Sensei’s torso, his only thought was ‘I only wanted to show him…’ then he met the end of his fall by remaining in Minato-Sensei’s arms, though how his teacher had managed to save him was beyond him. Looking up into the bluest of eyes, Kakashi stayed perfectly still, teetering on the edge of deciding whether the let Minato pick them back up, say something, or just struggling out of his Sensei’s grasp then making a break for it. His decision was made abruptly as the blue eyes twinkled merrily.

“Kakashi you’re not supposed to jump on me like that. Ask permission first, or at least give some warning. I don’t want you to get hurt.” It must have been at that time, Kakashi realized, that he fell for his very different sort of Sensei. Though he meant metaphysically, he also quite literally fell, taking the blond man with him as he went. As they stayed there in their state, Kakashi finally blinked, one hand loosening from it’s death grip on the flak vest and hooking his mask. In a furious sort of motion, almost as if he was afraid to allow Minato to see his face, he shoved his lips onto his teacher’s. Sure, he probably should have thought about what he was doing and the consequences of said actions, but he was too enthralled with these (way too deep) emotions.

Minato, for his part, jerked away from the uninvited touch against his lips, but as the touch stubbornly continued, he remained still. He wouldn’t respond to the action, that would only encourage the youngster: besides, Minato chided himself, Kakashi probably didn’t realize what he was doing. No, he was only stringing himself along. The Hatake read the adult novels produced by the one and only Jiraiya. The child knew what he was doing. Finally, as if noticing that he wasn’t being kissed back, Kakashi pulled away, bringing his mask back up; higher this time, right underneath his eyes to hide the vibrant blush that was spreading. Minato cleared his throat, then moved them to a safer position.

His sapphire eyes stayed away from his student’s form as he made himself comfortable in his lap once more, the blond haired man once more in his armchair. Finally, Kakashi had enough sense to mumble an apology to the older man. Minato blinked, able to look at him once more.

“Why did you do that, Kakashi? Do you know how much trouble I could get in for that?” The silver haired boy was ashamed, if the downcast eyes were any indication. He sighed, shaking his head as he watched his student for any sign of him leaving his lap, but the youngster only wiggled around.

“I… I wanted puppies.” This was whispered behind his mask, as if he knew how to go about this, to get what he wanted. Wait, he wanted puppies?

“You have your nin dogs, didn’t you just meet the newborns?” He looked at his student with disbelief. How could he want more little mongrels to deal with?

“No, I want my own. I want to have a litter.” For a moment the new information didn’t sink in. He didn’t react until the incredulity took effect.

“Kakashi, they’re called children… not puppies.” His sapphire eyes watched as the form of his student shrugged. He didn’t even want to think about what brought this on.

“Same thing.” Minato shook his head, eyes wide.

“No, not the same thing.” He paused. “Besides, you can’t have litters. You have one child, maybe two at once. And that’s women.” Onyx eyes snapped up to meet his.

“Only girls can have them? Then how do I get them?” He couldn’t believe this. Whoever had deluded his student would pay.

“You can’t. You’re too young.” Kakashi’s voice immediately piped up.

“But you can.” He looked at his masked student once more.

“I could, but I don’t want a child, Kakashi.” Immediately Kakashi broke into an almost pleading tone.

“But I would take care of the puppy! Really, I will!” Minato gave a sigh, shutting his blue eyes and laying a hand on the youth’s head.

“Kakashi, when I have a child you are more than welcome to help me care for it. However, you must wait until that time.” His eyes opened to look on his student’s face, disbelieving eyes looking back at him.

“Really?” He smiled gently.

“Really really.” He watched as the silver-haired Chuunin grinned at him from behind his mask.
