Butterfly World, established in 1988 in Tradewinds Park, Coconut Grove, Florida, was the first “butterfly house” in North America. Since then, there has been a proliferation of similar facilities, where a variety of exotic butterflies and moths hatch and flourish. There are species from Asia, Africa, and South America-little flying jewels that most of us could not hope to photograph during the course of one lifetime, for reasons of both time and finances. You would think that, with such controlled subjects, it would be a simple matter to produce unique and creative images. There are, however, challenges to be met if you don’t want your photographs to look just like everyone else's. These generally involve the following issues.
