"Everyone compliments my eyes," you said, tired,
When we spoke the other day.
I vowed to find something new to admire
To find something different to say.
I thought for a second, a minute, an hour
But I was just searching in vain
For your eyes over me have an unexplained power
To completely derail this thought train
There's a look in your eyes that screams of possession
Owning me until you blink
The things I see there leave a lasting impression
Thwarting my attempts to think
Your eyes hold me captive like a prisoner of war
I know it sounds trite, but they do
And if this is bondage, then I want some more
I'll give up my freedom for you
So here's one more compliment to add to the rest
Extoling the beauty of your eyes
It's been said before, but I've said it best
Just listen and I'll tell you why
I've seen the affection, the humor, the care
The things other people don't see
I've looked past your eyes to the man behind there
And I've noticed pieces of me.
They see the beauty but I see the heart
And I can't help thinking it's true
That I see the whole, they see only one part
And I've got the better view.
