Italy will play 2010 World Cup hosts South Africa in a friendly match on October 17, it has been announced.
The Azzurri will take on the Bafana Bafana most likely on Italian soil for the test encounter, but a venue has not yet been set.
The South African Federation confirmed the game would be played after Italy’s Euro 2008 qualifier against Georgia on October 13.
This would be the second time that the two sides have crossed paths, as Italy beat South Africa 1-0 in a friendly on April 25, 2001.
Giovanni Trapattoni was in charge at the time and Vincenzo Montella scored the only goal at Perugia’s Stadio Renato Curi.
So far Coach Roberto Donadoni is yet to win a single international friendly, losing his debut 2-0 to Croatia on August 16 2006 and drawing 1-1 with Turkey in November that same year.
However, his squad has won its last five Euro 2008 qualifiers on the trot and currently sits in second place in Group B behind France.
