Newsie Odds and Ends

•Way more important than anything else is that fact that Gila and Alice are finally getting married! *insert unsmiling shrieks of joy here* According to at least one Italian news outlet, the wedding is going to be in Portofino on July 5th, the same day as Gila's (and Crespo's) birthday.

•It was reported this morning with much distress (and in great detail) that Comotto's and Storari's cars were vandalized last night but, by afternoon, the club had announced that no such thing ever happened. So, you know. Never mind.

•Cesare, Seb and Gambit got more regional awards the other day, sharing the stage with the 1969, Scudetto-winning Viola team. Based on the pictures, it was a very casual affair, at least for the two current Viola boys -- Cesare ditched his dress-hoodie for a suit, but Seb and Gambit were all about the tshirts.

•A couple things regarding the Lecce match: 1)It'll be Cesare's 300th in charge in Serie A, and b)if Melo or Jojo gets carded, they'll be suspended for Milan. Can't they just watch this one, to be on the safe side?

•On the topic of Crespo, both his agent and Corvino have confirmed Fiorentina's interest in the Argie and, despite recent rumors that Napoli Genoa someone might trying to sneak in and steal him, most of the media seem to agree that he's been wearing purple next season.

•Most of the rest of the news is also transfer-related, a lot of it defense-focused. Today's big defensive!rumor is that Corvino is trying to steal both Juan and Panucci from Roma. The latter is out of contract at the end of the season, so acquiring him wouldn't be a problem, but they both reportedly have salaries above what Fiorentina would be willing to pay. Another insistent story is about Samp right back Campagnari, to whom La Viola are supposedly pretty close; he'd cost about €5 million.

Other defensive names that have been floating around for a while and won't stop doing so are those of De Silvestri (supposedly available only for co-ownership) and Cribari from Lazio, Zapata from Udine, and the ever-present Ivanovic from Cheslea, who Dejan Stankovic says has told him in Serb!confidence that he is prepared to leave England, despite stories in the media about his wanting to stay.

•Also rumored to be arriving -- mostly because his agent keeps talking about it -- is Moussa Dembele, a 21-year-old striker from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.

•In terms of who might be leaving, Corvino insists that no one will be sold unless they ask to leave, which theoretically means we should ignore all the stuff about Germans chasing Jojo, Zenit's €13 million offer for Mutu, and all those stories about people wanting Melo. For their parts, Mutu says he's got no intentions of leaving, and Melo's management still say he's happy in Florence and is working toward an extension. Nevertheless, there's been a lot of speculation in the last couple days about Melo leaving, mostly because of his peripatetic career to this point, and because Corvino is making it sound like he'll need to sell in order to buy.

•And, because it will never, ever go away, there's more conversation now about Jorgy's extension. He's telling the press at home it's up to the club and he's not received an offer yet, while Covino has told the press he made Jorgy an offer, albeit one that's appropriate for a 35-year-old player. Oh dear -- I smell offended Jorgy.
